Status Update
Hello explorers! It's been a while, huh? Sorry for taking this long for making a status update!
It is always heartwarming to know that there are people who are eagerly waiting for the release of Raider Kid and the Ruby Chest. It's a project in which we put a lot of effort despite our busy lives, and knowing some of you are as excited as we are for the release makes us motivated to keep going. However, we won't be able to keep up with the promise of releasing the game this year, as it was originally planned.
Fortunately for us, the pandemic hasn't dramatically affected our lives or taken our jobs, but among freelance work, political activism, other side-projects or just having really demanding daytime jobs, we didn't invest as much time in it as we planned during the second half of this year.
We're still working on the project on a weekly basis, while I'm personally trying to return to a 4-day-per week routine for implementing features. Right now our backlog is about 70% done. We're currently finishing a fully-playable version of the game (which we're calling an alpha version) but we still have plenty of work to do in late-game cutscenes, enemies and secrets. For that reason, we think it's likely that the game won't come out before the second half of 2021. We'll update a more detailed release date as soon as we finish this phase of development and re-evaluate what is left to be done.
We apologize for not being able to keep up with the expectations but ask you to be patient for just a bit longer. 🙏
As for some good news, today we uploaded a new version of the demo with completely updated soundtrack and sound effects, made by Rodrigo Passos, our awesome new composer and sound designer! The new versions of the songs were made with DefleMask and for the first time are 100% faithful to the Game Boy aesthetics and limitations. We're extremely happy with how much more authentic the overall experience feels right now, so be sure to give it a try and tell us what you think! Scroll down to listen to some of the tunes.
Keep in mind that apart from that, the demo still has the same content as before (it ends a little bit after the first boss fight).
Stay tuned for more updates soon!
